Salvage of Salmon Feeding Platform in Scotland

The more than 1,000-ton feeding platform sank in Scotland during extreme weather in November 2021. While waiting for the rescue operation, the salmon feed began to decompose, resulting in high concentrations of toxic H2S gases. Marine Masters and Qceas were hired to clean the feed storage areas and then return the salmon feeding platform to deeper water without causing further damage to the structure.

The concrete feeder platform was moved to deeper water using an internally developed lifting concept consisting of steel slings integrated into steel balls. These slings were installed through the hawser pipes at each corner of the platform. Expert chemists were used to continuously monitor the atmosphere in the storage areas and in the immediate vicinity of the platform to protect the salvagers from the toxic gases.
