“Adapting quickly requires a comprehensive safety plan”
“As project leader, I was closely involved in the project in Norway, at the beautiful island of Fedje. A ship sank there in 2008, and the order to salvage the stern of the ship as well was given in 2018. It wasn’t so much the 23-meter depth of the wreck that was a challenge, but rather the changing weather conditions. In Norway, it is often good or bad. In changing weather conditions, it is always good to have an experienced diving team since divers need to respond according to those conditions. Quickly perform a dive when conditions are good, which requires a thorough preparation and comprehensive safety plan in a proactive collaboration with the supervisor of Qceas.
The first phase consisted of ‘Broco cutting’, or the underwater cutting and disengaging the steel parts of the stern of the vessel. Specialist divers play a key role in this process. The stern of the wreck was then secured with chains and hoisted up 23 meters. The result was another successful project and a pleasant collaboration with Qceas.”
